It has been announced that the opening fixtures of the British Athletics Cross Challenge Series and the John H Collins Gwent Cross Country League, due to be held at Llandaff Fields in Cardiff on Saturday 10th October, has been CANCELLED next month due to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and current Welsh Government restrictions.

The park in the Welsh Capital just north of the City alongside the River Taf has over the years attracted many of the UK's top endurance runners and club athletes from all over the United Kingdom to kick-start their winter campaigns.
Founded in 1997, the Cardiff Cross Challenge normally starts the 2020 / 2021 British Athletics Cross Challenge Series in October and the series lasts through to the latter stages of the winter in March.
Elsewhere, the newly named "John Collins Gwent Cross Country League" in 2018 has now been going strong for numerous years, attracting athletes - juniors and seniors - from clubs across South Wales and the South West of England. The league is open to those trying cross country for the first time in the novices going through under 13, under 15, under 17/20 and seniors/masters and has attracted over 1,000 competitors in each location.
Four fixtures were held over the 2019 / 2020 campaign, starting in Cardiff, then a local home match at Pembrey Country Park followed by trips to Blaise Castle in Bristol and Chepstow Racecourse either side of Christmas.
With five events normally scheduled in this league season from October and concluding in March, and Carmarthen Harriers due to host a fixture in November, an update on the John H Collins Gwent Cross Country League this year will be made following its Annual General Meeting in a few weeks time.
