Actif Sport and Leisure preparing to get the county back to fitness

Actif Sport and Leisure have today confirmed (Friday 31st July) that four of its Leisure Centres will be re-opening in ten days time and prepares to get the county of Carmarthenshire back to fitness.

Amman Valley, Newcastle Emlyn, St Clears and Llandovery sites will re-open to the public on Monday 10th August with safety measures in place.

The services that will be re-starting at each centre are:

  • Amman Valley – gym, workout pods, swimming pool and outdoor classes
  • Newcastle Emlyn – gym and workout pods
  • St Clears – gym, workout pods and limited indoor classes
  • Llandovery Swimming Pool – Swimming pool

It comes as the Welsh Government announced its latest easing of restrictions. The county's leisure centres have been closed since the country went into lockdown in March.

New measures have been put in place at the leisure centres to ensure visitors and staff are safe whilst using the centres, and not all facilities or activities will be available.

Swim, gym, fitness pod and class programmes must be pre-booked through the Actif Sport and Leisure website or app, and sessions will be limited.

Customers should expect to observe social distancing, follow one-way systems, use sanitisation stations and to wipe down kit after use. Water fountains and vending will not be available.

Leisure Centres at Carmarthen and Llanelli, are still under the management of Hywel Dda University Health Board and will not be re-opened until further notice having been re-purposed as temporary field hospitals to support the NHS. Coedcae Sports Centre will also remain closed for the time being but will re-open soon on a date to be announced.

For members wishing to restart their membership, you'll be pleased to know Actif have temporarily reduced the direct debit membership prices to reflect the services that they can members when re-opening, which should deliver even greater value for Actif membership.  The lower prices will stay in place until the end of September.  These prices will be reviewed each month considering the facilities and services Actif are able to make available to you.

Executive board member for Culture, Sport and Tourism, Cllr Peter Hughes Griffiths, said: “We are really looking forward to welcoming all our customers back to our centres. We need to be mindful that the virus has not gone away and we must do everything we can to limit the spread.

"The safety of our customers and staff is paramount so please ensure you behave responsibly, consider others around and follow staff instruction when visiting the centres. We want you to enjoy your visit and help you to protect yourself and others.”
