Welsh Athletics Indoor Junior Open & Regional Championships Day 1 - Cardiff 02/12/18 PDF Print E-mail

The National Indoor Athletics Centre at Cyncoed Campus, Cardiff will host the Welsh Athletics Junior Open including South/East Wales Regional Championships, South West England Regional Championships & West Wales 200m, 300m, 400m Regional Championships 02/12/18.

Following the recent WA/WSAA Indoor Combined Events Championships, the National Indoor Athletics Centre at Cyncoed Campus, Cardiff will hold its first junior championships of the season. On SUNDAY 2ND DECEMBER, the Welsh Athletics Junior Open including South/East Wales Regional Championships, South West England Regional Championships & West Wales 200m, 300m, 400m Regional Championships will take place on Day 1.

Closing Date for entries: Midnight on Sunday 18th November. Please also note that this event will be held on the same day as round 3 of the John H Collins Gwent Cross Country League, which heads to Tredegar's Bryn Bach park.

 

Event Programme for Day 1 on 02/12/18:

Under 13 Girls / Merched O Dan 13: 200m, Long Jump, High Jump

Under 13 Boys / Bechgyn O Dan 13: 200m, High Jump, Shot Put

Under 15 Girls / Merched O Dan 15: 200m, 300m, High Jump, Long Jump

Under 15 Boys / Bechgyn O Dan 15: 200m, 300m, High Jump, Shot Put

Under 17 Women / Merched O Dan 17: 200m, 300m, Shot Put, Triple Jump, High Jump

Under 17 Men / Bechgyn O Dan 17: 200m, 400m, Shot Put, Triple Jump, High Jump

 

Note that age groups are different from cross country therefore age groups at Cardiff are:

Under 13 Boys & Girls / Bechgyn a Merched O Dan 13: must be born on or between 01.09.06 to 31.08.08 = school years 6 and 7.

Under 15 Boys & Girls / Bechgyn a Merched O Dan 15: must be born on or between 01.09.04 to 31.08.06 = school years 8 and 9.

Under 17 Men & Women / Bechgyn a Merched O Dan 17: must be born on or between 01.09.02 to 31.08.04 = school years 10 and 11.

 

It is the athletes' responsibility to enter on time of the closing date, note that some events have limited spaces therefore prompt entry is advised before all places sell out.

 

 

There will, once again, be a limit on entry numbers in Field Events. These will be capped at 40 athletes, with an initial quota for each region filled on a first-come first-served basis. Athletes will be placed on a waiting list once their region's places have been filled and free spaces will be re-allocated as appropriate following the closing date for entries.

South Wales - 12 places

East Wales - 12 places

South West England - 8 places

Junior Open - 8 places

 

As a pilot initiative this indoor season, West Wales Championship events will be incorporated into the Welsh Athletics Junior Open Meetings for track disciplines only from 200m to 1500m inclusive, for the Under 13, Under 15 and Under 17 age groups. This is mirroring the East Wales, South Wales and South West England regions.

60m, 60m Hurdles, Shot, High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump & Pole Vault will be held in Swansea, at the annual West Wales Championships, over the weekend of 12th and 13th January for all age categories as normal in the West Wales Championships (entries for January will go live shortly).

Entry for the first competition at Cardiff on Sunday 2nd December are now live. Please check carefully which age category that you are in and what event disciplines are available via the entry link below.

West Wales athletes can enter any available events, however are only eligible for medals in the 200m, 300m and 400m.

Day 2 of these championships will take place at the beginning of the New Year at the same venue. Some of the events then will include the 60m, 60m Hurdles, 800m, 1500m, Long Jump, Shot and Pole Vault.
