SPECIAL GUESTS / GWESTEION ARBENNIG

We will be joined by a number of guests on the evening, but delighted to announce that five top class athletes have agreed and will be present on the 2nd of November, three of them having began their athletics careers here in Carmarthen. The quartet will be familiar faces to you by now, having enjoyed great success between them competing for Wales, Welsh Schools and Great Britain over some of the top competitions around in the World.

The Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in Australia was one of the main highlights to name over the summer as Welsh athletes was concerned, as Griffiths (Josh) and Jones were involved in the final athletics event, the marathon in very warm conditions out down under. Josh shocked himself and others after crossing as the first Brit at the London Marathon in 2017 to secure his place on the start line.

Dewi, coached by our very own Kevin Evans on the other hand has been dominating on the road, winning the Cardiff 10K at the beginning of September and leading a strong Welsh contingent, finished ninth at the Cardiff Half Marathon. European Youth 1500m champion Heyward has been also in action over the summer, in top form in the 1500m. He represented Great Britain at the European Junior Championships in Finland back in mid July finishing fourth and this was followed by a personal best run of 3:36:90 at the London Stadium Anniversary Games a few weeks later knocking three seconds off his previous best.

Claire Williams is now one of our throws coaches at the club and is great to see the young throwers progressing thanks to her guidance. She competed in the Paralympic T12 throwing events in three Games (2004 Athens); 2008 (Beijing) and London 2012. At London, she took the bronze medal in the discus with a best throw of 39.63m.

You'll find out much more information and interesting facts about each one at the dinner so make sure that you're a part of it.

As well as presenting the awards to the youngsters and volunteers, Dewi Griffiths, Jake Heyward, Josh Griffiths, Caryl Mair Jones and Claire Williams will be taking part in a question and answer which is expected to be a great occasion for athletes, coaches, parents and volunteers alike.
