The final Carmarthen Open Throws Meeting (26/07/18) & Round 4 of the Louise Arthur League (28/07/18) will take place in Carmarthen, Swansea and Newport in the space of three days. More Details / Mwy O Wybodaeth.


After another successful three fixtures, 26th July sees the fourth of four Carmarthen Open Throws Meetings open to all club athletes. Javelin & Discus will be the disciplines to take place this month.

The ever popular Carmarthen Open Throws Meetings has returned in 2018 and will held on the last Thursday evening of each month in April, May, June and July at 18:00 for all club athletes from under 13 above.

On Thursday 26th July, the Throws will come to an end for another season and has seen good numbers again. Javelin and Discus are the events on the last one.

Entry is on the evening from 17:00 at £2 per athlete to compete.

These friendly Thursday evenings at the end of every month is open to all athletes from all clubs in the under 13, under 15, under 17, under 20 and senior age groups. Performances will be sent to Power of 10 and provides a great opportunity to practice ahead of forthcoming league and championship fixtures.

It has been going strong for the last eight years with athletes turning out from across Wales. Javelin coach Ralph Siggery has organised each one.

The final rounds of 2018 Louise Arthur League West & East Divisions heads to Swansea University & Newport Stadium on Saturday 28th July - NOTE NEW DATE as the league campaign draws to a close.



The fourth Welsh Junior League / Louise Arthur League matches of the 2018 season (under 11, under 13 and under 15) is being held at Swansea and Newport on SATURDAY 28TH JULY between 11am and 6pm. NOTE NEW DATE THAT IT IS SATURDAY MATCHES AND NOT SUNDAY 29TH.

West clubs will be heading to the Swansea University Athletics Track, while for the East division, they will go for the second time in less than a month to the Newport Stadium Athletics Track. Newport Harriers were third round hosts with Cwmbran Harriers in the fourth but at the same venue.

Carmarthen, Hereford, Neath, Cardiff, Brecon & Newport have already seen the league visit their venues over the past two months.


The following clubs will be taking part throughout the 2018 Louise Arthur League season:

WEST Carmarthen Harriers (1-100); Barry & Vale Harriers (101-170); Pontyclun AC (171-200); Brecon AC (201-290); Neath Harriers (291-360); Pembrokeshire Harriers (361-460); Bridgend AC (461-540); Llanelli AC (541-590) and Swansea Harriers (591-750).

EAST Aberdare VAAC (1-50); Blaenau Gwent AC (51-120); Cardiff Archers (121-250); Cardiff AAC (251-400); Cwmbran Harriers (401-450); Hereford & County (451-500); Newport Harriers (501-600); Rhondda AC (601-650); Rhymney Valley AC (651-750).

The Louise Arthur League has gone from strength to strength with around 500 athletes competing in each event in 2017. It's given children of all ages between under 11 and under 15 age groups the opportunity to compete in a friendly league alongside runners from across South and Mid Wales. The Louise Arthur League is split into two leagues - the West and East. East matches feature those in the South East area and take place on the same weekends as the West Fixtures.

In the Junior Louise Arthur League this year, each club can enter up to four athletes in an event in every age group.


Under 11 / O Dan 11 (Years 4 & 5): 75m, 150m, 800m, Long Jump, Shot Put, Javelin, Relay

Under 13 / O Dan 13 (Years 6 & 7): 100m, 200m, 800m, 1500m, 1000m Walk, 70/75m Hurdles, High Jump, Long Jump, Shot Put, Discus, Javelin, Relay

Under 15 / O Dan 15 (Years 8 & 9): 100m, 200m, 300m, 800m, 1500m, 1000m Walk, 75/80m Hurdles, High Jump, Pole Vault, Hammer, Long Jump, Shot Put, Discus, Javelin, Relay


Under 13 and Under 15 athletes can enter in up to any 3 events and the relay (800m or 1500m in one competition day).

Under 11 athletes can enter in up to 3 events and relay (only 2 track events, 1 field or 2 field events, 1 track).

Athletes are reminded to arrive at their event at least 10 minutes before start time (event reporting times on the timetable)

Both leagues begin at 11:00am with the hurdles and hammer events. The track will go onto the distance 1500m before the popular 75m and 100m sprint categories. At half way will be the 800m then back to a variety of sprint age groups including 150m, 200m and 300m. The programme on the track concludes with the 1000m walks and sprint relays.

There's an action-packed afternoon to look forward to on the field too with the hammer, javelin, long jump, shot, pole vault, discus and high jump in progress.

Clubs will go forward to the Welsh junior league plate and cup finals later on in August after the four league meetings. Swansea University Athletics Track are this year's hosts on 18/19 August where defending champions Cardiff Archers and Menai Track and Field will be aiming to win successive titles.

First 3 clubs from East and West = 6

First place from the North = 1

Best 4th place of East and Wales (from season league points and match points)


Qualification to Plate Final - Saturday 18th August 2018 - Swansea

4th, 5th and 6th place from East and West = 6

2nd place from North = 1

Composition team from 7th, 8th, 9th East and West


only 2 athletes per club per event are permitted in the finals.
