THIS WEEKEND / PENWYTHNOS YMA: Welsh Athletics 2017 Conference & Awards Weekend @ Newport 21-22.10.17 PDF Print E-mail


It's set to be a full weekend of events on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd October, as the #Inspired2017 Welsh Athletics Conference and Awards weekend will take place at the Coldra Court Hotel (by Celtic Manor), Newport.

The events will build on the success of the 2015 and 2016 editions.

Clubs Conference - 21/10/17

Will take place on Saturday 21st October and will build on the success of the 2016 and 2015 events.

The conference will once again feature a strong line up of presenters including:

- Mike Lynch, GB sport, one of the leading agencies in the UK providing expert training and support to clubs.

- Richard Jones, Senior Manager, Swansea City Community Trust and leading Sports Development professional.

- Mel Anderson, Senior Lecturer in Sport (Cardiff Metropolitan University) and Managing Director of the hugely successful Valleys Gymnastics Academy.

- Steve Brace, Double Olympian and contribution to delivery of the Cardiff University / IAAF World Half Marathon and Cardiff Half Marathon.

- Mel Anderson, Valleys Gymnastics Academy, will present a session focusing on "Growth, Sustaining and Developing a Community Sports Club"

- Rich Jones, Swansea City Community Trust

There will be a strong emphasis on "Club Modernisation" and the "Future Proofing" of Club Activities. In addition, the conference will feature the ever popular "Club Workshops" allowing clubs to share examples of good practice and innovative activities.

The Clubs Conference will offer something for clubs of all sizes and disciplines across Wales and will be a real opportunity for clubs to interact in a positive and dynamic way. Throughout the day are a series of through provoking sessions that will help deliver pratical solutions in helping clubs develop and thrive.

Awards Evening and Awards Dinner - 21/10/17

Will take place on the evening of Saturday 21st October and this prestigious event will be a celebration of athletics in Wales and see clubs, groups, athletes as well as many volunteers from across the country recognised for their contributions in supporting the development of the sport.

Nominations were open for anyone to nominate those they thought deserved to be recognised, closing on 1st September. There was a record number of nominations received, with over 300 put in across all categories which look to recognise. Also to be presented on the evening is the Welsh Athletics Service Award which looks to recognise special achievements or long term service at club, regional, school, district schools or at national level for Welsh Schools or Welsh Athletics.

Coaching Conference - 22/10/17

Will take place on Sunday 22nd October and feature a range of speakers covering both event specific content and specific coaching skills. The conference will provide a unique learning environment for coaching of all levels and abilities. In addition, there will naturally be some time set aside throughout the day for coaches to network and share ideas and in less formal settings.

Welsh Athletics are delighted to announce that Fuzz Caan will be the keynote speaker for the day. Fuzz has a wealth of experience coaching at the very top of our sport, having coached at Olympic Games and World Championship level. In 2012, Fuzz guided GB high jumper Robbie Grabarz to a bronze medal placing at the London Olympics.
