Results: Welsh Schools again represented Wales at this year’s Mini Marathon and the Welsh team performed well - hopes were high going into the road event after the great performances delivered at the SIAB Schools & Home Countries International in Margam Park during March.  This was the 15th successive year that teams from Welsh Schools had attended this prestigious event held over the last 3 miles of the London Marathon course and the finish in front of the Mall.. Welsh Schools were pleased to announce the make-up of the teams for this year's Virgin Money Giving Mini London-Marathon on Sunday 23rd April and it provided an opportunity for young athletes from Wales to test themselves against the best in Great Britain & Northern Ireland, competing against the other Celtic nations, the powerful English regions and athletes representing each of the London boroughs.

The Under 13, 15, and 17 teams comprising of 6 athletes were chosen from performances over a series of cross country events held over recent months and performances highlighted how competitive the group were, including the Welsh Inter Schools and Regional Championships and the final selection race, the Welsh Cross Country Championships in Swansea. After the traditional overnight stay on Saturday night at the Royal Holloway College, where the South Wales based team members met up with the North Wales contingent, the athletes and team management continued into London early on Sunday for the series of mini marathons (inspiring the next generation), which took place shortly before 9am and were set out in three age groups for athletes between 11-17 years old. While now a familiar challenge for many, for others this provided an opportunity to gain experience and learn about both the event and the road racing disciple especially in the younger age groups and they will now be ready to push on for another appearance in the next few years.

In the team competition, (4 to score) the best Welsh team was the U13B in 4th, and there was a 5th, two 6th, 7th and 9th. There were many pleasing times recorded on the day.

The team was supported by a Management Team of 4, Steve Jones (Afan Nedd Tawe/WSAA), Rhys Jones (Neath Harriers AC), Joan Goldsmith (Carmarthen & District Harriers) alongside Steve Livett (Menai AC). Thanks also goes to Med Richards (Dyfed) and Hedydd Davies (Dyfed) for their hard work in preparation for the 2017 event.

In addition to those who ran, a big well done also to Harriers middle distance Tomos Rees (under 15's) and Thomas Jones (under 17's) who were standing by as reserves for the London showdown.

There was a brilliant performance from Swansea Harrier and former Carmarthen Harrier Josh Griffiths who was the first British Athlete home in sub 2.15 and has clocked the qualifying standards for the World champs in London this summer. Many congratulations Josh from everyone at the club! You might have also seen Matthew Rees helping a fellow participant over the finish line in the final 200 metres - well done Matthew!
