Carmarthenshire hosted its first junior Parkrun in Carmarthen Park this weekend earlier today (Sunday). It is the 500th ParkRun and 100th junior run in the UK on a weekly basis.

The rain stopped this morning for long enough to set up in Carmarthen Park and welcome 65 eager runners to the start line!  A briefing and warm-up session was enjoyed by all before they gathered on the line.  A good turn out of the local junior athletes, Carmarthen Harriers, saw a strong lead taken early by 3 boys, who held their positions until the Finish line, with Frank Morgan first over the line.  The girls run was a close call with Daisy Thompson first over the line just one second ahead of the next girl!

A fantastic atmosphere wasn't dampened by the light rain that came in time to cool the runners down.  An overwhelming sense of community filled the park, and a huge thankyou goes out to every runner who took place and every marshall and volunteer who helped make this inaugural event a huge success.  Da Iawn!!
