West Wales - Welsh Inter-Regional Champions 2014 PDF Print E-mail

The West Wales Region hosted the annual match for 2014 at Swansea University on Sunday August 31st. On a warm and pleasant day, over 140 West Wales athletes competed for the region, which is a tribute to all the athletes and their parents for supporting the team at the Inter-Regionals this year when there are so many other events/holidays at the same time .

West Wales again won the overall team championship, winning by over 200 points from the South Region. 1 West Wales 1086; 2 South Wales 864; 3 East Wales 720; 4 North Wales 405

West Wales also added the Male and Female trophies, along with new awards for this year - combined U15 B/G Trophy, combined U17 M/W Trophy and combined U20/Snr M/W Trophy.

FULL RESULTS - Due to technical issues and other problems, the relay presentations were unable to be completed at the end of the event. On behalf of Welsh Athletics, we hope that the medals that was promised to be given to those athletes in the relay, will gain these in the very near future.

Taking place at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Cardiff on Saturday November 15th, The 2014 Welsh Athletics Awards programme will see many volunteers from across the country recognised for their contributions in supporting the development of the sport.

Awards categories will recognise the work of clubs, volunteers, officials and coaches. Award categories include; Track & Field Club of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Performance / Development Coach Track&Field / Off Track, Athlete of the Year and Track and Field Official of the Year.

The Swansea Junior Games is back again for 2014 on Sunday September 14th 2014 at Swansea University Track - Open to all athletes from any Club / School - U11, U13, U15, U17 Age Grouops. Swansea Harriers celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 2012 and the club was delighted to add a new fixture to the summer programme with the Swansea Junior Golden Games. Full Information below:

Monday August 18th - Saturday August 23rd, Swansea hosted IPC European Championships, the first time the event has been held in Great Britain. Around 560 of the best athletes from 37 countries compete at the biggest para-sport event ever to be held in Wales. There were a number of Commonwealth Games Athletes in action and a number of world records were broken.

Carmarthen Harriers finished third at this year's Gerald Codd Trophy Match at Haverfordwest and fifth overall at the Junior League Cup Final at Newport.

CONGRATULATIONS to the U17 & U20 West Wales composite team of Pembrokeshire Harriers, Carmarthen Harriers, Neath and Llanelli athletes, who have gained promotion to the Premier 2 Midland Division next season, after winning the three matches held this season by a huge margin. Thank you for all the efforts you have put in during the season, and also to the team managers who have worked hard to get full teams out.

Five Carmarthen Harriers members competed for Wales in the annual Schools International Match against England, Ireland and Scotland and twenty-three travelled to Brecon for the Welsh Senior League Cup Final.

The fourth and final league match of the Louise Arthur League this season was completed at Brecon on the 12th of July. This year, things had been altered where all nine clubs were competing in one division instead of two, as done in previous years, and it made for better competition. Carmarthen have qualified for the end of season Cup Final with the best 4th place team.

Three Harriers members ran in the 3000m races at the start of the meeting - Sioned Glynn (11.19.45) and Ellie Kiff (11.42.00) in the U15G/U17W and Ben Thomas (10.08.86) in the U15/17M race. Full Results now available here - Ysgol Y Dderwen won this year's event, held at the Carmarthen Athletics Track on a warm and sunny evening (Monday June 23rd). The competition was again sponsored by McDonalds and the medals to the first three in every event were presented by Ron Mounsey of McDonalds and the Mayor and Mayoress of Carmarthen Cllr Arwel and Catrin Lloyd
